HSIEH CHIH LEE
2000
Born in 1972, Li Xianzhi studied ceramic arts in the Fine Arts Department of Taipei Hsieh-Ho Industrial and Commercial School. His artistic development was profoundly influenced by the teachings and insights of Singaporean ceramic artist Master Liu Weiren.
Growing up during the vibrant artistic renaissance of Taiwan in the early 1990s, Li pursued ceramic craftsmanship after graduation. During this period, he travelled between Malaysia and Singapore, gaining extensive hands-on experience in kiln construction, firing techniques, glaze formulation, and ceramic sculpture.
In 2000, he established his studio, Jue Zhao Pottery Kiln (觉照陶窑), in Yilan, Taiwan. The name Jue Zhao embodies his personal philosophy: to remain mindful of one's inner state and to continually reflect upon one's thoughts and intentions.
His artistic practice focuses primarily on vessels inspired by Eastern tea culture, while also encompassing a diverse range of functional ceramics for everyday living. He additionally accepts commissions for customised ceramic pieces.
His works have been exhibited in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Li Xianzhi currently resides in Sanxing Township, Yilan, Taiwan.
