Theng Sea Way (丁士伟) is a Johor Bahru calligrapher and educator, and Deputy Director of National Calligraphy Education (全国书法教育副主任). He grew up surrounded by Chinese education, first picked up the brush in Primary 5, and went on to study under a master of the Shanghai school (海派).
Beyond the classroom, he serves as a calligraphy competition judge and works to bring the art to more people across Malaysia.
For him, a good piece of calligraphy is not only about writing the characters beautifully. The whole work has to move the person looking at it. He believes beautiful writing is a skill you keep for life, and in his classes at Wanawani, every student learns at their own pace, from the very first stroke.
